As a follow up to their recent Africa Wealth Report, New World Wealth have reviewed the luxury market in South Africa. SA’s luxury goods market is currently dominated by foreign brands such as Porsche, Rolex and Louis Vuitton. However, there are also some local brands that operate in this space.

Notables include:

  • Rain Africa – bath & body products.
  • &Beyond – safari lodges.
  • Woolworths Food – luxury food.
  • Carrol Boyes – kitchen products.
  • Robertson & Caine – boat builders.

The SA luxury sector generates revenue of approximately US$2 billion a year, making it the largest luxury market in Africa by some margin. This figure includes: luxury cars, luxury clothing & accessories, luxury watches and luxury hotels & lodges.

Spotlight on luxury safari lodges:

A large portion of SA luxury sector revenue comes from top-end safari lodges. SA is home to some of the best safari lodges in Africa – many of these lodges are located in the Sabi Sands, which is part of the Greater Kruger National Park. New World Wealth’s top safari lodge picks for 2021 include (in no particular order):

  • Singita Ebony Lodge – Sabi Sands.
  • Londolozi – Sabi Sands.
  • Ulusaba – Sabi Sands.
  • Ngala Tented Camp – Timbavati.
  • Lion Sands – Sabi Sands.
  • Leopard Hills – Sabi Sands.
  • Savanna Lodge – Sabi Sands.
  • Bushmans Kloof – Cederberg.

These lodges are especially popular among HNWIs, and they all score highly when it comes to location, views and scenery.
