The Hazendal has officially opened its doors. Situated on the grounds of the Hazendal Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, it combines modern design elements with historical Cape Dutch architecture to create a lavish new Cape winelands accommodation establishment. The hotel’s exterior is clean and minimalist, making use of traditional whites, blacks, and charcoals to blend in with the existing estate architecture. Juxtaposing the austerity of these colours is an interior featuring bright artworks, natural sky lights, and an oasis of indoor flower beds.
Each of The Hazendal’s 34 rooms have been individually decorated and stocked with every modern convenience. Original artworks curated by the inhouse Marvol Gallery showcase a variety of up-and-coming SA talent.
Thirty-one beautifully appointed Superior and Luxury Rooms open onto patios furnished with modern swing chairs. Each room has a view of the pool deck or the Stellenbosch mountains. Two spacious suites boast private jacuzzis. The pièce de résistance is a 122sqm Presidential Suite.
A shady central courtyard with a heated swimming pool forms the heart of the property, while a new spa integrates historical farm buildings and modern extensions with double volume ceilings and high glass windows. The venue’s restaurant is under the direction of Executive Chef Michelle Theron. Other offerings include a deli and a cigar lounge and bar.
Director of Hazendal Wine Estate, Simone Voloshin, says that in the eight years since the Voloshin family started their extensive renovation and developed of Hazendal Wine Estate, it had become apparent that a luxury hotel was needed to complete the property experience. “As our wedding, conference and event bookings picked up, guests kept asking us where they could find a nearby hotel of a similar standard to the 5-star offerings available at our estate. It was clear that there was demand and that a hotel would be the key to tie our various offerings together. Hazendal’s unique way of blending modern style, technology, and heritage as well as the vastness of our experiential offerings means that it is hard to find any attraction, experience or hospitality offering remotely like what we offer here.”
The estate’s facilities include a wine tasting lounge, a par three 18-hole golf course, a putting park, a driving range, a golf academy, a padel court, a state-of-the-art children’s edutainment centre, a classic car collection, an art gallery and a conference centre.
The estate is managed by Newmark Hotels & Reserves. “In more than 15 years since Newmark was founded, we have been on the lookout for the right property in the Cape winelands to partner with. Hazendal Wine Estate and The Hazendal complements our offering perfectly,” says CEO of Newmark Hotels & Reserves, Neil Markovitz.
