Bongani Comfort Zulu oversees this multifaceted destination. He is one of the youngest General Managers within the MINT Hotels group. He manages a property that challenges traditional hotel norms and requires a hands-on, people-focused approach.
Born and raised in a small town near Badplaas in Mpumalanga, Zulu built his leadership style on respect, hard work, empathy and community. These values shaped him long before he entered the hospitality industry.
He did not plan a career in hospitality. He initially pursued engineering. In 2017, he entered the hospitality sector. He quickly realised that the industry aligned with his passion for people and service.
A Career Shaped by Experience and Perspective
Zulu began his career as a part-time banquet steward. He steadily progressed through food and beverage roles. He moved into bar supervision and assistant management positions. These early roles exposed him to the operational realities of hospitality. They also reinforced a lesson that still guides him today: no role exists in isolation.
“There is no ‘I’ in team,” he says. This belief underpins his leadership style and shapes his expectations of those around him.
Zulu joined MINT Hotels in 2021 at MINT Hotel 84 on Katherine. He took on the role of front desk team leader. This position marked a shift from his food and beverage background. Instead of resisting the change, he embraced it.
He later moved into housekeeping leadership roles. He worked across MINT Hotel 84 on Katherine and MINT Express Sandton View. These cross-functional roles broadened his operational understanding. They also strengthened his adaptability.
Leading a Resort Experience by Bongani Zulu That Defies Convention
In 2022, Zulu moved into a management role at the five-star Villa at MINT Resorts The Blyde. As the resort expanded, he played an integral role in setting up operations across the wider property. He also supported the resort’s grand opening in 2023.
Today, he is in his fifth year with the group and his fourth year at MINT Resorts The Blyde. He oversees both the four- and five-star resort environments. This responsibility requires consistency, attention to detail and a deep understanding of diverse guest expectations.

Managing a resort-style hotel of this nature requires more than operational oversight. The property offers lagoon activities, beach-style leisure, conferencing facilities and premium accommodation. All of this exists within one destination.
Zulu leads with a service philosophy that balances structure and flexibility. He sets firm standards. He also leads with empathy and approachability.
While the resort embraces operational efficiencies such as self-check-in technology, Zulu remains committed to visible, hands-on leadership.
“There is nothing guests appreciate more than management visibility,” he says. “It makes them feel at home. It reminds them they are more than a room number. They are part of the experience.”
