Melissa and Sinead met in their first year of studying interior design at Greenside Design Center, where they bonded over a mutual obsession with all things design and a love of nature and people. After they both graduated with a BA in Interior Design, Melissa founded East Haus and the two of them now run the business together, focusing on custom furniture and interior design renovations and installations.
The two friends are also working on an Instagram IGTV channel, called Hojects, which they plan to launch in 2019. “You can follow us two besties taking on weird and unusual DIY projects together where laughter, hilarity and insanity ensue,” is how Melissa describes it. And then there’s Win A Home Season 5.
Melissa and Sinead actually entered the reality TV show last year after hearing about it on the day of the deadline for submissions. “We pulled an all-nighter to slap together a proposal and submitted it at 5 am the morning after the deadline had passed. We didn’t get in, but this year we got a phone call asking if we would like to be considered for the competition and, well, here we are!”
You can watch them transform a white-box penthouse apartment into a dream home on Thursday evenings on SABC 3 – the winning design team will be announced in December. The design duo’s plans for the future include further developing East Haus, working on their IGTV channel Hojects, releasing a locally produced collaborative furniture range early 2019 and “continue to learn, grow and share in order to be as actively involved as we can in trying to make the world a healthier, happier, more sustainable, balanced and resilient place for all”.
