Construction has officially commenced on the Seaton House campus. This marks a defining moment for a school that has been carefully envisioned to serve families on KwaZulu-Natal’s rapidly growing North Coast. The development forms part of a New Education Precinct designed to support long-term community growth. Earthworks are now underway within the Seaton Commercial precinct, just north of Salt Rock. The school is on track to open its doors to its first intake in January 2027.

A New Education Precinct Anchored by Purpose-Built Learning
Seaton House is an independent, co-educational school founded on Christian values. The school offers a seamless educational journey from Grade 0000 through to Grade 12. Designed as a purpose-built biophilic campus, Seaton House functions as a living classroom where academic rigour, character formation, sport, culture and a deep connection to nature are intentionally integrated.
Reflecting on the significance of breaking ground, Seaton House Board Chair and Project Lead Elwyn van den Aardweg said, “Seeing construction begin marks a meaningful moment for all of us. We are deeply grateful to everyone who believed in this vision and partnered with us to bring it to life.”
He added that building a school from the ground up brings both responsibility and hope. “We are laying more than physical foundations. We are establishing a school rooted in faith, character and excellence, while remaining thoughtful and responsive to the world our children are growing into.”
Strategic Location Supporting the North Coast’s New Education Precinct
The 25-hectare campus sits on the seaward side of the N2 between Seaton Estate and Lalela Estate. Its location places it within easy reach of established and emerging residential communities, including Springvale, Brettenwood, Dunkirk, Elaleni and Zululami. Improved access via the upgraded P228 provincial road and the new N2 interchange, scheduled for completion in 2026, will provide reliable connectivity for families across the region.
Biophilic Campus Design Focused on Nature-Based Learning
The campus works in harmony with the natural landscape and incorporates 12 hectares of protected wetlands, boardwalks and discovery trails. Designers integrated outdoor learning pods, sensory and food gardens, and a terraced amphitheatre directly into the campus. These spaces play an active role in daily school life, encouraging curiosity, reflection and hands-on learning in natural surroundings.
Construction ID is delivering Phase 1 of the project, which will establish the core infrastructure required for the school’s opening. This phase includes an administration building, a 450-seat auditorium, junior and senior classroom blocks, and a central Main Square that forms the heart of the campus.
The development team is transforming former polo fields into two rugby pitches, a cricket oval, and a netball or multi-use court, ensuring that sport is embedded from the outset. Fundraising is already underway to support future facilities, including a swimming pool and a synthetic hockey surface.
Speaking on behalf of the principal contractor, Construction ID Director Stuart Blacklaw said, “Seaton House represents a significant and meaningful project for us in KwaZulu-Natal. It is the kind of development that leaves a lasting legacy, not only through the quality of the build, but through the role it will play in the life of the region.”
He added, “At a time when KwaZulu-Natal is gaining renewed momentum through major projects that restore confidence and investment in the province, we are privileged to contribute to a school that so directly supports long-term community growth.”
Strong Early Interest Ahead of 2027 Opening
Interest in Seaton House has been strong from the outset. More than 475 families have registered interest. Over 170 formal applications have already been received for the opening grades. These will include Grade 0000 to Grade 6 and Grade 8. The school will add grades year by year until the full Grade 0000 to Grade 12 pathway is established.
Seaton Commercial Precinct Takes Shape
Seaton House is the first development to break ground within the broader Seaton Commercial precinct. It sets the tone for a mixed-use node. This will also include retail, medical and office components currently in planning.
Commenting on the broader context, Geoff Perkins, Managing Director of Collins Residential, said, “We are excited to see Seaton House lead the way as the first phase of Seaton Commercial comes to life. Beginning with a school of this calibre speaks to the kind of place we are shaping here.”
He added, “Education anchors communities. A school like Seaton House doesn’t just serve families. It establishes permanence, attracts long-term investment and helps create a precinct where people want to live, work and belong.”

Professional Team and Long-Term Community Benefits
Architect Elserie Pretorius of TCRPV leads the professional team, alongside landscape architect Bernice Rumble of Land Art Studio. A multidisciplinary group of civil, structural, environmental and traffic consultants supports them. Together, the team has shaped a campus that balances high functionality with a deep responsiveness to its natural setting.
Beyond the classroom, Seaton House is set to deliver meaningful benefits to the wider community. The project will create local employment during construction, encourage ongoing community engagement, and protect and rewild key ecological buffers. The school will maintain open, relational communication with families through regular construction updates, newsletters and termly forums, reinforcing its commitment to long-term partnership.

Completion Timeline and Next Steps
The construction team has scheduled completion for November 2026, allowing sufficient time for furniture installation, staff onboarding and full operational readiness ahead of the school’s opening in January 2027. As development progresses, Seaton House is already taking shape as a defining feature of the North Coast’s next chapter in education and community life.
